Gold American Eagle Coin

Since 1986,

America has been producing the gold American Eagle coin. The gold American Eagle

coin has four different denominations coming in the 1/10 gold American Eagle

coin, the 1/4 gold American Eagle coin, the 1/2 gold American Eagle coin and

the 1 troy ounce gold American Eagle coin. The United States government for

many years stayed away from producing gold coins as our monetary system was

removed from the gold standard. But, as many other countries began doing after

the resounding success of the South African Kruggerand gold coin as a collectible

and investment coin, the American government moved back into producing gold

coins in 1983 with it's first release of the Los Angeles Olympics commeorative

gold coins.

Prior to

that, the last dated and official legal tender American gold coin came 50 years

earlier in 1933. The gold American Eagle coin was met critcal acclaim from both

numismatists and investors from around the world. The gold American Eagle coin

has a legal tender value and can be used in the United States to purchase goods

and services, although it's highly suggested that you don't do this as the gold

content in each coin is far more valuable than the denomination of the coin

itself. The 1/10 gold American Eagle coin has a denomination of five dollars,

the 1/4 gold American Eagle coin has a denomination of ten dollars, the 1/2

gold American Eagle coin has a denomination of 25 dollars and the 1 troy ounce

gold American Eagle coin has a denomination of 50 dollars.

Although

the gold American Eagle coin is 1 troy ounce of gold, the coin itself weighs

more than 1 troy ounce. The gold American Eagle coin weighs 33.933 grams and

it's percentage of gold is 91.67 percent, or 22 karat. The rest of the coin

is comprised of copper and silver. The reason for adding the copper and silver

is to add strength to the coin while helping to keep its brilliant yellow hue.

Along with a large grouping of modern commemorative coins, the gold American

Eagle coin has helped to bring rekindle America's romance with the gold coins.
