Silver Half Dollar Coins

For over

two centuries, the United States has produced silver half dollar coins. For

many of those years the United States mint produced silver half dollar coins

which were meant for circulation. These silver half dollar coins have been instrumental

in helping ease the burden of transactions in commerce, as many merchant believed

the silver dollar coins to be too bulky and the lesser denomination coins to

be too small and ineffectual for trade. The silver half dollar coins of the

United States seemed to be a perfect fit for many reasons. The earliest silver

half dollar coins of the United States can carry a significant numismatic premium

within the coin collecting hobby.

They would

have to meet certain criteria for them to qualify as significantly more valuable

than their weight in silver such as condition, rarity and numismatic appeal.

Some of these designs include the Flowing Hair silver half dollar coins, the

Draped Bust silver half dollar coins, the Capped Bust silver half dollar coins

and the Seated Liberty silver half dollar coins. Some of the later designs in

the series of United States silver half dollar coins, which are still commonly

traded for their silver content, are the Barber silver half dollar coins, the

Walking Liberty silver half dollar coins, the Franklin silver half dollar coins

and the Kennedy silver half dollar coins minted from 1964 to 1970.

For as many

different series in the United States silver half dollar coins, there are many

more key date and better date silver half dollar coins. As stated earlier, most

of these coins exist within the earlier releases of silver half dollar coins,

but there are a few examples of better date and key date coins in the recent

designs like the Walking Liberty silver half dollar coins and the Barber silver

half dollar coins.

Examples

of these would be the 1921 D and 1938 D silver half dollar coins of the Walking

liberty set and the 1914 and 1915 silver half dollar coins of the Barber set.
